Mogfest Spotlights Transgender Musicians

Things I’m ready to leave behind in 2017:

  1. Promoters complaining about a lack of female, nonbinary, and trans talent in electronic music.

It is a horribly tired cop out offered up as an excuse for all male lineups given that there is no shortage of female, nonbinary, and trans talent. They aren’t hiding.

Moogfest is reaffirming its commitment to all inclusive lineups through the announcement of a partial 2018 lineup with Chelsea Manning as the keynote speaker. The impressive list of musical talent includes LCD Soundsystem’s Gavin Rayna Russom, Fatima Al Qadiri, SOPHIE, Discwoman’s Umfang and DJ Haram, Caroline Polachek, Jenny Hval, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, the US debut of Midori Takada, and many more.

To celebrate the announcement, Moogfest has launched a 50-hour marathon livestream going on now through December 8th featuring another lineup of all female, non-binary, and trans DJs dubbed Always On. The lineup features synth virtuoso Suzanne Ciani, Durham’s own PlayPlay, the indomitable Stud1nt, Moor Mother, Ela Minus, and 45 more talented artists pushing the boundaries of sound and space.
