I've been on Facebook more often than usual this week. It's been delightful to read through the concerns and replies of transgender parents. The thing that comes across most often is just how much they LOVE their kids! This is SO huge.
Event though we live in a country and at a time that transgender is becoming more widely known, and to some degree, accepted, as part of the human condition, there are still a LOT of people who refuse to do so. It doesn't take much of a web search to find people who scorn being transgender or are outright hostile to us. How lovely that some kids are able to grow up in homes with parents who loving protect and encourage them, even if it's hard to do.
To that end, I wrote an article on Medium and Posted a similar YouTube video. I also posted the article under Trans-Parenting on this site. Take a look. If your a parent of a transgender child, let me know what you think, and share some other tips I didn't include.
In other news, I'm working with someone to get an LGBT meet-up started. It's my hope that I'll be able to connect with other transgender people and perhaps start a "Casa Susanna II" group. We'll see how that goes.
I'm also about done with some significant family issues, which I hope will free me to become more invested in some LGBT Social Justice causes.
And ... I've avoided the flu that seems to be plaguing the nation. (Fingers washed and crossed, and immune system fizzy tablets taken daily!)
